Here is a special piece for you collectors of match holders or for anybody looking for an unusual accent piece to hang on your wall. This match holder is made from a piece of heavy gauge solid brass that has been cut, shaped and textured by hand. It measures about 8 1/4 inches long by about 4 inches wide. It is not at all flimsy. The thickness of the brass is impressive and gives the piece some heft. The front of the holder has been hammer-dimpled to give interesting texture, while the edges have been slightly curled to add an additional bit of texturing and catch the light. On the bottom third there is a highly textured area that is clearly intended for striking matches. A shallow cup has been hammered out towards the front with a piece of brass soldered to the back. Together they form the bowl for holding the matches. On the top around the hole used for hanging, a scrolling ribbon has been hammered into the piece. The condition is good. There is minor oxidation on the top front with some stray spots located elsewhere on the piece. It is clean and pleasant in appearance. Having an Arts and Crafts quality it would be great hanging in a mission style bungalow. This is a nice item that will add interest to any room for a very reasonable amount of money.
