This offering is for a brass tool intended to be used by designers, architects, or engineers to aid in preparing complex drawing. It is made from solid brass and is in original unpolished condition. The piece measures 4 5/8 inches in diameter and is about 1/64 inch thick. It has an American patent for Dec. 5, 1885 issued to the Polygraph Company of Philadelphia. It is also stamped with a European patent dated December 1886. The piece would have been used to facilitate the production of precision drawings with templates for circles, lines, angles, triangles and all sorts of exotic shapes. It resembles a protractor in some respects, but it is much more than that with many drawing capabilities. The surface is stamped with multiple markings for angles and a variety of other measurements. The piece is in excellent condition and is ready to use, if the new owner wishes to do so. It is a wonderful item from a long-ago time before computer aided design systems made it so easy to produce precision drawings. What a wonderful item to display in your office or studio.
