We are making available to all you arm-chair travelers and bibliophiles a wonderful book on traveling across the U.S. in 1896. The book is titled "Over the Range to the Golden Gate, A Complete Tourist's Guide to Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California, Oregon, Puget Sound and the Great North-West" originally published in 1894 and "Revised and Corrected to Date, 1896." The book is published by R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co., Chicago. It consists of 283 profusely illustrated pages of travel materials and sights to see. If you were traveling in 1896 then this was the book to have. The cover is done in a very intense purple embossed with black images of the West and a gilded title. The binding is sound and tight. The covers are in fine condition with some minor fading along the spine. The pages are slightly browned as is common for books from this era. The original owner's signature is in ink on the inside cover. There is a 2 inches tear in the front endpaper along the spine at a spot where it is hardly noticeable. This is a very nice copy of an interesting old book and it would be a handsome addition to your bookshelves.
