This item is a bit of a mystery as we have been unable to locate another one on the internet and have no knowledge about it other than what we see. The item consists of a 12 piece puzzle map of the United States along with the original box that it came in. It was “Made in Japan” and clearly labelled as such multiple times. The pieces seem to be made from very hard rubber material which might indicate that they were intended to be erasers of some sort. If that is so, judging by their good condition, nobody ever used them as erasers. The box measures 4 inches by 5 7/8 inches and is about 3/8 inches thick. The assembled puzzle is slightly smaller. The puzzle is in nice condition with no signs of damage other than some smudging on the puzzle pieces. The smudging is clearly visible in the photos. The box has been torn at all four corners and along several edges. About 1 ½ inches of the box are missing from one of the edges of the box top. Even with that damage, the box still holds the puzzle very nicely. The graphics on both the box top and the puzzle are terrific, in wonderful condition, clean, and nicely done. There are lots of printing errors in the map with regards to labelling. Maryland and New Jersey are not labelled, Cleveland, Ohio is in Pennsylvania, Connecticut is abbreviated C. O., and much more. All of this contributes to making it a fun and interesting item. We have located a very small number of random items made by “BestMaid” in Japan all of which date to the 1930’s. You will not be disappointed with this fun piece. If you collect maps, puzzles, or early children’s toys, then you will enjoy having this in your collection.
