This is large, vintage beaded evening bag or purse that most likely dates from the 1920’s or 30’s. It is covered in colorful glass beads. The theme of the design is floral, with sprigs of small flowers surrounded by birds. The beadwork is nicely executed, and still tight. There are strips of missing beads on one side near the seam. The steel frame closes firmly and is not bent like many we’ve seen. There is an impressed pattern on the steel frame. The chain is also steel with sturdy links. At the bottom of the bag there is a set of beaded tassels all done with a combination of clear, orange, and black beads.

When displayed flat on a table the bag measures 8.25 inches across by 12.25 inches high, including the frame and fringes, but not including the snap closure. The silk lining is completely shredded, as are most linings in these old bags. The flaws, including the missing beads, can be addressed or not depending on its new owner. It is a wonderful display piece that would be a nice addition to any collection.
