We are offering a handsome carved wooden bread tray done with a large leaf motif in the style of Black Forest items. This piece is signed and dated on the back with the designation Poznan P.W.K. 1929. So it definitely comes from the Poznan region is west central Poland prior to World War II. The tray measures 15.5 inches long by 9.75 inches wide. It has a depth of about 1.5 inches. The workmanship is of very high quality. It is carved from linden wood that has been stained to a walnut color. The general condition is quite good, although there are several minor issues. There are two tight splits in the wood, each located in the two end handles. There is minor abrading of the wood at places along with some scratches. One corner of one of the leaves looks like a small piece of wood might have been split off of it, but it could also be a rough spot in the carving. If it is damage, it blends in well with the look of the rest of the piece. Overall, this is a very nice item that displays well and that could still be used as a bread tray or for some other similar purpose.
