This is a very uncommon item set of two Anri carved bookends. Each bookend has a carved figure in peasant attire, one an elderly lady the other an elderly gentleman, both sitting in front of a fireplace. The elderly woman is knitting while the man is smoking his pipe. The pieces are beautifully executed and quite quaint. Each piece measure 7 inches tall, is 5 3/8 inches wide, and 4 3/8 inches deep. Both pieces have been nicely embellished with paint. They are in fine condition. Each piece is clean and crisp. There is minor paint loss on the woman’s shoulders and bottom of her skirt. There are also 2 small divots in the black rim of the piece at the top and are visible in the photos. The man has a small amount of paint loss on the top of his hat and on his pants. Both carved figures are attached to the bases of the bookends with screws. These are a tad loose so that the figures can be pivoted slightly. You might want to consider orienting the figures to your liking and then tightening the screws. We have searched all over the internet and not been able to find another set of bookends like these. Apparently they are not that common an item. They certainly are a delight to behold and should provide much pleasure to their new owner.
