This wonderful piece of folk art is a hand made airplane that sits on a display stand. The piece is made entirely out of pieces of steel wire, including what appear to be split rings, that have all been carefully spot welded, or soldered, together. It is an impressive item that reflects quite a bit of work and displays beautifully. Whoever made it, knows his or her way around a metal shop. While the aircraft is generic in design, the fuselage bears some similarity to a PBY from World War II. It stands a total of 12 ½ inches tall. The wingspan is 18 inches and the length of the plane is 13 ½ inches. The wings are hinged so that they can fold down. This will make it much easier to ship. The piece is very substantial and quite heavy. The condition is excellent. The whole piece was originally sprayed with aluminum paint that provides a nice silvery look to the piece. There is some minor oxidation at a few spots that has developed underneath the paint. Other than that, the piece is ready to display in your den or office. If you have an aviator in the family, then this would make a great gift.
