This wonderful piece of Goberg Arts and Crafts era metalwork is a match holder designed to hang on a wall. Some of Goberg's work was sold under the name of Rasper of Austria. This piece has the "Rasper, Austria" signature on it even though it is clearly a Goberg piece. Below the match holder there is a decorated cup that was either intended for spent matches or for tobacco ashes. The piece is 8 3/4 inches long, 5 5/8 inches wide, and the ashtray sits about 3 1/4 inches away from the wall. The condition is used, but with the patina that is highly prized on iron work from the Arts and Crafts era. There is one spot on the left edge of the back where a small ding is located, but it is subtle and easily overlooked. The surface both front and back is mottled with iron oxidation and reddish rust. The piece is clean, but the surface has the feel of time. You will love to see this hanging on your wall in a kitchen or den. It will add a marvelous accent to any Mission style home.
