This is a card game that was probably sold at the tourist spots in Yellowstone National Park. Although it is not dated, internet research indicates it is from 1898. The set consists of 52 cards that each has a scene from the Park. The game was made and sold by The Cincinnati Game Co., Cincinnati, Ohio. It is based on illustrating a trip through the park. It is in its original box with all 52 cards present and the game instructions are attached to the inside of the box lid. The cards are in great condition. They have photographs from the park with descriptive text on one side and a great design on the back of each card that consists of a buffalo, Yellowstone Falls, and sunflowers. There is no indication who took the photographs that appear on the cards, but they are likely done by Haynes, Jackson, or Hines who were all early photographers in the Park. The box has a piece missing out of one side and there is sunning on the other side of the box which has bleached the red box to a yellowish-red. The box measures 2 ¾ inches by 3 ¾ inches by 7/8 inches tall. The cards are made of very heavy card stock and are in excellent condition with minor yellowing from age. It is quite unusual to find this game set in this condition with all the parts present and free from any significant wear other than the loss to the box. It is also very special to have a full set of beautiful early photographs of the park. If you collect Yellowstone memorabilia then you definitely need to add this to your collection.
