We are offering a beautiful and rare commemorative inkwell that was given to all attendees at the annual dinner of the Ohio Society of New York on December 20th, 1913. This was a very well known and exclusive social club for ex-Ohioans of the upper classes who were living in New York City. The piece represents an Ohio buckeye leaf set with two buckeyes. The Ohio buckeye is the state tree and a term of affection for citizens of Ohio.
This bronze inkwell was made by the Williams Foundry, which was founded by John Williams, a former Tiffany employee. They did work for a number of prominent artists and architects. As would be expected, the casting is beautiful. The piece's dimensions are 8.25 inches long from the tip of the stem to leaf tip. It is approximately 6 inches wide and is 2.25 inches high. The inkwell lid say “Ohio Society of New York 28th Annual Banquet Dec 20th 1913.” The piece has a wonderful natural patina with just a few greenish oxidation spots. Overall condition is great. It is missing the glass insert ink bottle, but it should not be hard to find a replacement if desired. Because this was made exclusively for attendees of the Ohio Society of New York's banquet, this is a very unique piece cast by a prominent American foundry with links to Tiffany and Co. If you collect inkwells or are a proud Buckeye, then you do not want to miss out on the opportunity to own this wonderful piece of artistic history.
