We are offering a very nice hand-hammered antique Navajo spoon for you to consider. Highly desirable and very collectible, this spoon measures 5 1/4 inches long. The bowl is 1 1/4 inches wide by 2 inches long. It is made from a fairly heavy gauge of silver by a true Navajo artisan. At the turn of the last century this type of spoon was always made from ingot silver by the Navajo Indians (Dineh) of Arizona and New Mexico for the tourist trade, usually selling their wares at the Harvey Houses or railroad stations. They were never marked for silver content. The design elements are all hand die-stamped into this spoon. This spoon is special because of the wonderful standing figure that has been cut and hammered into the handle of the spoon along with the whirling logs design that is heavily stamped into the spoon bowl. In addition there are a number of other iconic elements running down the length of the spoon handle and bowl including two sets of crossed arrows and a storm pattern cross much as is frequently found in Navajo rugs from the same period. The condition of the spoon is excellent. The silver is heavy and the piece shows the requisite file and hammer marks from working the piece. We believe that it might have been polished at one time by a previous owner but it is starting to develop the beautiful glowing patina that collectors value on these old spoons. We hope that the new owner will continue to honor this patina. Overall, this spoon is a gem and priced well-below the going market value for figural spoons.

If you collect Navajo spoons then this spoon is for you. It is a nice elegant addition to your collection. If you do not collect these spoons then it is time to start. Their value is skyrocketing since the release of the Navajo spoon book by Cindra Kline. You can shop with confidence at Sweetpea Cottage. YOUR SATISFACTION IS GUARANTEED.
