Sweetpea Cottage continues to be one of the primary sources for Navajo rugs/weavings on Ruby Lane. Once again we have located a truly outstanding weaving for your consideration. This rug would best be described as transitional and dates from approximately 1900. It is a beautiful piece made from hand-spun wool done in shades of black and cream with a very strong dominant red. The design consists of crosses and serrated diamonds. This beautiful rug is substantial in size measuring a generous 101 inches by 56 inches. The weaving is well done and has nicely survived the years. The assymmetric design speaks to the creativity of the weaver. She wove according to whatever she felt like doing at the time without any regard to producing a symmetrical pattern. It has recently been professionally cleaned in order to restore the vibrant colors that make this rug so striking. There are a number of small spots that did not come out during the cleaning process. Fortunately, they are small and unobtrusive. Some minor repairs were also made at the time of cleaning. These were primarily along the edges and corners. There are some early repairs that were done at another time which we have chosen to leave in the piece. There is some very low-level bleeding of the red that still remains, but it is not a major factor. It might have been a floor rug at one time, but with the repairs and cleaning it is ready to be displayed on a wall or over a railing. So, dust off your Molesworth furniture and find room in your Arts and Crafts décor. Stickley would be proud to display this wonderful weaving in a place of distinction. Be sure to look carefully at the bold and bright design. You will see that this rug is a cut above and of great investment quality. It will continue to increase in value as you derive increased pleasure from viewing it.

As a piece of art or a decorative element in an Arts and Crafts home, you can not go wrong with this beauty. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to send email.
