Sweetpea Cottage is offering this fine old regional Navajo weaving or rug. Dated from 1910-1920's, the design is boldly graphic, suggesting images of the Arts and Crafts Movement and the Stickley era. There are lots of lazy lines and weavers marks woven into the rug. Notice the erratic diamond patterns running along the edges that the weaver deliberately put into this rug. Marvelous to the touch, it is soft and supple, radiating quiet charm. The dimensions are approximately 37 inches by 47 inches. The photos show the subtle change in dimensions as the sides bow in and out slightly.
The rug displays beautifully on either a wall or floor. There are small spots at a variety of locations. We do not know what they are and have never tried to remove them. There is some unraveling along the edges and there are areas of minor wear on the corners. Some weaving repairs were attempted by a previous owner. Check the photos carefully and you should be able to get a sense of the quality of the rug. It has been used and loved. We have had this rug for a good number of years and have thoroughly enjoyed hanging it in a place of honor. This is an old rug with lots of great character. It was all hand made many years ago on a traditional loom by a Navajo artisan. So, dust off your Molesworth furniture and display it along with this wonderful artifact of an earlier time.
