We are offering an Art Nouveau signed pewter Kayserzinn candlestick, or chamberstick, designated with the inventory number 4018 and made in Germany. (In Germany this time period was also part of the Jugendstil era.) The candlestick measures 11 1/4 inches long, by 5 ½ inches wide, with a maximum height at the handle of 3 1/4 inches. It is decorated with a dandelion motif cast into the surface that includes a flower, leaves, a seed head and some loose seeds floating across the piece. On the back it is signed with the logo "Kayserzinn 4018" cast inside a raised oval. There are some other numbers outside of the oval which we are unable to decipher. Research indicates that this piece was probably produced by Kayserzinn somewhere between 1897 and 1911. Considering its age, it is in very good condition. As is true of all pewter this piece has developed the typical gray patina along with some random spots of heavier oxidation. There are also small scratches and dings which are consistent with its use and age. We have seen several other pieces similar to this one that are for sale on the internet. Those pieces usually suffer from heavy damage as a result of being dropped which causes quite a bit of bending to the rims. That has not happened to this piece. There are several areas of very minor waviness to the rim that can only be seen if you look hard for them. This piece has never been cleaned. Most pewter experts discourage polishing and prefer the gray oxidation that develops with age. This is a nice piece for both display and use. It will bring an element of class to any setting.
