We are offering a signed piece from the studios of Hugo Berger. This piece of "Goberg" is unique and extremely rare because it is made from solid brass that has been cast and hammered. The vast majority of Goberg's work was done with hammered iron. This piece is a lobby bell or counter bell done in the form of a delightful pig including a curly tail and a ring in its nose. It stands about 4 ½ inches tall, is a maximum of about 5 1/4 inches long, and the base is a maximum of 3 inches wide. On the one side of the pig there is a bell attached directly to the pig body with screws and nuts. The bell is activated by turning a knob located on the front of the bell. Overall, the condition is fine. It was polished at one time and has developed wonderful brass color. The bell is made from steel and is also polished to a nice soft luster. There are the usual small scratches from age on the brass and steel surfaces along with some very minor wear. The base has some minor bends in it so that it does not sit totally flat on a surface. It is a nice item with an outstanding look. It is signed on the underside with a stamped "Goberg" and "ges. gesch." which basically indicates that it is patented. As a display piece it shows very well with its marvelous luster, yet it can also be used for its original purpose if you choose. Goberg lobby bells are very rare and highly desirable. Combined with the wonderful pig character it is something very special. This is a very special addition to any Goberg or bell collection.
