This is one of the more rare pieces of work by Goberg that we have ever seen. It consists of a heavy hammered iron bowl that sits on a tripod of three heavy gauge iron legs. The edge of the bowl is banded with a solid piece of iron bar that extends all the way around and is finished off with an artistically curled handle. In the center of the bowl sits an iron cup that is intended to hold a candle. Underneath the candle holder one can see a set of four decorative hearts that have been hammered into the iron surface of the bowl. The piece is made with a very thick gauge of iron making it very heavy and suggesting that it is one of Goberg's earlier creations. The bowl measures 6 ½ inches in diameter and stands 3 inches tall. The condition is exceptionally good. It has the usual dings, scratches and rust spots that would be associated with early iron work. The surface has been covered with a protective layer of museum wax to help keep the surface as fresh as possible. On the underside is the hammered signature “Goberg”. This is a wonderful item with a great presence. It looks terrific sitting on a table and will provide years of service as a candlestick and/or ashtray. It would be handy to fill with M and M’s or any other candy of your choosing.
