This wonderful Arts and Crafts era acid etched and hammered copper tray is sure to make you smile. The piece measures 18.75 inches long and is 11.625 inches wide. From the table top to the top of the handles it measures 1.625 inches tall. The style of the piece makes it appear to be from Carence Crafters Studios in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is hand hammered from very heavy gauge sheet copper that has been bent up to form a dimpled and crimped rim. Mild rolled handles made from sheet copper have been riveted to the two ends. In the center of the bottom of the tray an Arts and Crafts style design appears. It looks to be trillium flowers and foliage which has been acid etched into the surface. The condition of the tray is very good. There are no signs of any damage from dings or being dropped. The surface has several small areas of green oxidation (probably from contact with an acidic liquid) which would be expected on a piece of aged copper. The piece was polished at some point during its existence. Fortunately, it was long ago and since then the surface has redeveloped a nice old cleaned patina. The photos make the surface look to be more unevenly oxidized than it really is. Overall, the look of the piece is terrific. The acid etched design is striking both in execution and appearance. It will be wonderful to have this tray sitting on your Stickley table or sideboard perhaps displaying a nice piece of art pottery.
