This wonderful utility tray, utensil tray, or knife tray clearly has Adirondack origins. It measures 13 1/4 inches long, 9 3/4 inches wide, and 4 1/4 inches high. The handle sticks up above the tray adding an additional ½ inch. It is hand made by somebody with good carpentry skills. It is made primarily from pine with well mitered corners and a bottom that sits flush inserted into the sides. The outside of the tray is decorated with alternating vertical pieces of wood that appear to be both walnut and maple. Each of these vertical pieces is slightly rounded rather than having flat-cut surfaces. Around the top rim of the tray there is a striped molding that is, again, well mitered in the corners. The whole tray with the exception of the underside is finished with varnish that has darkened with age to add a nice patina to the piece. The condition is excellent with the normal signs of age that are associated with daily use. It is completely solid with no splits, popped nails, or broken joints. It would be great either as a display piece or as a useful item for storage of desk detritus. This is not just another utility tray. It is something both unique and special with a great look.
