I should have taken a before and after pictures of these adorable dragonfly earrings. They were covered in so much tarnish I could hard believe they were sterling, but I could see a mark on the head of the screw so I though I would bring them home and see what I could do for the little creatures.
First I brushed them with professional tarnish remover, then they had to have, not one but two baths in the sonic jewelry cleaner. Better I though but no cigar. So they took a couple of spins on the buffing wheel and finally a soft rouge buffing cloth.
I am certain I heard them buzz with delight as the weight of years and years of tarnish was removed from their tiny wings.
Finally our books say, the best way to date vintage earrings are by type, but please note there is an overlap for each type.
Screw backs came out in 1908 and were used until clip on took over.
Clip on came out in 1934 and were popular until the early to mid 60's.
However pierced both post and wires have been popular off and on since the late 1800's
I would say from the style and screw backs these little darlings are from the 40's.
