This ring was purchased for our shop back in the mid 1970s. The trader who sold them to my husband told us they were made by the Ortega family out of Gallup New Mexico. The Ortegas were famous for their skilled craftsmanship in their silver work and in how they cut and fit their stones.
The stones in this ring are precision cut to fit the smooth lines of this ring. Normally a bevel is made and clamped around a stone but here the stone is cut to perfectly fit the setting and then a thin line of silver separates the mother of pearl and the turquoise.
Although this ring was made in the 70s it has a stunning contemporary design. The setting is heavy yet sleek. The face of the ring measures 1 ¼ north to south.
