Outstanding 1940s US Navy World War II Peacoat Pea Coat Unisex

This is a one-owner, absolutely authentic, original World War II peacoat issued to my Dad when he was a sailor in the U.S. Navy serving in WWII. It is not a "uniform," but it was Navy-manufactured and issued to him as a member of the Armed Forces.

It is double breasted, so it could be Unisex - you can button it either left over right or right over left.

SIZE is stated 38 on the label, which is about a "Men's Small" or "Ladies Medium". I am a size 36-38 woman and it fits me. My Dad was a small man. Sewn-in labels identify the coat as having been manufactured by the U. S. Navy Clothing Factory in Brooklyn, New York. My Dad's name and rank (PTR 2/c) are inked on the label. After volunteering in 1942, he served in combat areas in North Africa and the Philippines.

CONDITION is LIKE NEW. It is beautiful. We can find no damage of any kind. NO moth damage. NO rips or tears, NO stains, NO worn areas. NO missing or damaged buttons. My parents took extremely good care of their possessions, and this coat is no exception. It cannot have been worn more than only several times -- IF it ever was worn at all.

QUALITY is fabulous, with exceptional tailoring and wool fabric that is is top shelf. The coat is fully lined. There are two slash pockets with double welted openings and an inside breast pocket. There is a pleat in the back. The buttons are carefully attached, and each has an anchor design pressed in.

IMPORTANT: We will be glad to take measurements and correspond if you may be interested in purchasing this. It is a small treasure of American history, but collectors seem to be more interested in official uniforms, and it would be superb worn as a regular coat.

PLEASE NOTE: A "peacoat" by definition is "a short, double-breasted overcoat of woolen cloth, formerly worn by sailors." The Oxford Dictionary dates the origin of the pea jacket or peacoat to the early 18th century, claiming that it was probably derived from the Dutch word pijjakker, from “pij” for 'coat of coarse cloth' + jekker for 'jacket'.
