Here is a very old wooden toy locomotive with three cars -- an old train that dates to at least the 1940s and possibly earlier. It is one of the family items I thought was mine when I was little, but have no actual knowledge of whose it was originally. This set in essence is glorified wooden blocks, originally made as a toy for a toddler to learn about shapes and colors.
It is factory made but there is no maker mark or label, and I was unable to find anything trying to research it.
We are offering it as a DECORATOR ITEM, because the old paint makes it unsuitable for a children's toy. The paint is original with expected edge flaking and wear from use. There are NO cracks, chips, flakes or repairs in the wood.
Each car has a round piece at the front that hooks into a "loop" at the back of any of the other cars. There is no detail beyond suggested shapes: The blue engine is easy to identify, and the red car is likely a caboose because of the overhanging "roof" and the fact that cabooses traditionally are red. Of the other two, the yellow car appears to be the tender or coal car and the shape of the green car suggests it is a freight car.
CONDITION: PLEASE SEE OUR PICTURES ! There is pencil writing on the top of both the engine (hard to see) and the yellow coal car (obvious). We have NOT tried to remove it - but it is pencil, not pen.
LASTLY, on the engine there is a hole at the front top, which may have held a "smokestack" or NOT if this is a DIESEL engine. There is blue paint down inside this hole. This could be corrected with a short piece of wooden dowel or just leave it as is.
