So pretty and cheerful - the flowers decorating this cup and saucer set from the Southern Pacific Railroad depict the ones that might be seen by travelers enjoying the view through the windows of SPRR dining cars. They include California Poppy, Baby Blue Eyes, Ruby Lily, Azalea and Farewell to Spring.
IMPORTANT - please look at our pictures. The saucers carry the Railroad bottom marking while the mug style cup has simply the Syracuse China bottom stamp. This is absolutely correct and both pieces are absolutely authentic and fit together perfectly, but discriminating collectors prefer to have both pieces marked the same, so we have priced accordingly.
Condition is extremely nice with almost no signs of use (you must look hard to find any). There are no cracks, chips, flakes or repairs. There is just the slightest suggestion of age darkening on the cup rims.
Prairie Mountain Wildflowers was so popular with the traveling public that the SPRR used it from 1931 until the mid-1950s. It is a fine pattern to collect with a variety of decorations and several manufacturers.
