SEVERAL AVAILABLE - From the Southern Pacific Railroad, we have these adorable side dishes -- sauce dish, monkey bowl, fruit bowl -- one would be placed to the right of a place setting on a dining table. These are hard to find "Prairie Mountain Wildflower" pattern china made by Syracuse China for the railroad.
There are absolutely NO cracks, chips, flakes or repairs. There is no aging discoloration and the artwork is beautifully bright and cheerful.
Each dish is approximately 5 inches across, with three flowers depicted: the Mariposa Tulip, Baby Blue Eyes and California Poppy. These flowers were chosen because passengers often could look out rail car windows and see them growing, along SP routes. The stamped rim design identifies these dishes as Econo-Rim, a design invented by Syracuse China to conserve space on cramped dining car tables while serving the same amount of food as on other types of ware.
There is no date code, but this pattern was produced only for the Southern Pacific, and the bottom marking identifies the pieces accurately.
