So very British and GIFT CONDITION - this retired Royal Doulton figurine depicts "The Game Keeper" : An experienced hunter and his faithful Labrador Retriever companion, originally sculpted by artist Eric Griffiths. The colors are strong and details are painstakingly hand painted. The greying, beloved companion dog is absolutely endearing, and his master's lifelike facial features, turtleneck sweater and wool leggings are little fine points that bring this pair to life.
This beautiful bone china figurine, HN2879, is in absolutely mint condition with NO damage of any kind, NO cracks, chips, flakes or repairs and no glaze crazing.
As a "game keeper," this man would have been employed by a wealthy estate owner to manage wildlife on his property, making sure there would be enough game for shooting. Such attention to detail: the Black Lab and double barreled shotgun suggest the estate owner enjoyed duck and waterfowl hunting!
This figurine is dated 1983. "The Game Keeper" was retired in 1992 and is one of the more difficult Royal Doulton figurines to find. The current Charlton Standard Catalogue values it at $300.00.
At 7-1/4 inches tall, 5 inches wide and 5-1/4 inches deep, this would be superb as a gift for someone who enjoys the outdoors and wildlife, a Labrador Retriever lover or anyone who collects Royal Doulton.
