The Des Moines City Railway Company was an electric street railway operation that owned only about 100 miles of track in the city of Des Moines, Iowa, according to our Gross directory, which states it started up in 1893 and was changed to the Des Moines Railway Company in 1929.
Stamped DE M C RY CO , this honest old key is a survivor. Its marking is worn from years of "finger polish" and lots of use, but it is obvious what the letters are. On the opposite side is stamped the letter S for switch.
Condition is a bit worn, but what a great find! If you have a lock, there is plenty of life left in it to use. The barrel end is worn away slightly but the metal is not thin or cracked.
Midwest railroad relics can be very difficult to come by. This one would be welcome in any collection of better railroad locks and keys!
