Here is a cup and saucer set from the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad. This is a wonderful matching set with both pieces having an identical Albert Pick bottom marking. It is lovely in medium blue on creamy, off-white chinaware. The pattern name is Bleeding Blue.
This is the full coffee or tea size set. The cup holds 6 ounces comfortably and the saucer is 6-1/4 inches across.
Condition is wonderful -- the blue decoration is strong and clear with no runs, which is very important to collectors. Note the letters have the correct "double lines:" a lighter blue line inside the darker outer line. Both pieces are absolutely free from chips, cracks or flakes, and neither has been repaired. The only noticeable flaw is cosmetic -- a shallow, tiny flake on the edge of the base rim of the saucer (this shows in pictures).
There are very few if any utensil marks, perhaps because this may have come from a later order, made as the Santa Fe began closing out Bleeding Blue and began to order other patterns.
Our "RestaurantWare Vol II" (Conroy) states that Albert Pick & Co. , a dinnerware distributor for many railroads including the Santa Fe, used this marking about 1930.
