This wonderful tea pot from the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad is a very rare find -- and incredible in such superb, nearly pristine condition. Made by high-end, sought after maker Bauscher China of Weiden, Bavaria, it is fully railroad marked and is dated 1926.
The pattern name is California Poppy, an exclusive design used by the Santa Fe Railroad from approximately 1910 right through until the 1960s. The railroad bought most of their Poppy dinnerware from Syracuse China. Elusive Bauscher pieces -- exquisite in finer weight ware and brilliant hues -- are are among the most highly prized by railroad collectors.
Cheerful, bright yellow flowers and greenery contrast dramatically with the bright white base ware, gracing both sides and the lid. Artfully applied, the full blown blooms greet a right-handed user. Partially open flowers adorn the other side, and tight buds decorate the lid.
SIZE: This tea pot holds about three standard 6-ounce coffee cups, or 18 ounces. It would have been used for one or two diners.
CONDITION is superb, nearly pristine with one cosmetic exception. If there are any signs of use we cannot find them. There are NO chips or cracks around the rim of either the pot or the lid. Even the tip of the spout is perfect.
IMPORTANT: The only flaw is an unfortunate shallow chip on the inside of the rim on the bottom. This is NOT visible unless you pick up the pot and turn it over to see it. This shows in our pictures, please look.
