We are proud to offer this pale green variation of the sought after "Alamo" china plates from the MK&T Railroad, also known as "Katy Lines." This striking plate is a full 10-1/2 inches across.
In the center is a highly detailed portrait in rust brown of the San Antonio mission that was so important in American and Mexican history. A beautiful, wide light bluish-green stripe with darker bands on its edges adorns the wide rim.
Accoring to "The Official Guide to Railroad Dining Car China" (McIntyre) this pattern, along with a similar one with an intense deep cobalt rim band, was produced to "commemorate the Texas Centennial in 1936 . . . . The borders matched the interiors of the Katy dining cars and blended beautifully with the colors in the Bluebonnet pattern."
This plate carries the full railway backstamp that reads : "Made especially for MK&T RR" along with a Buffalo China "Ye Old Ivory" backmark, but the railroad mark is only partially legible (although it is clearly present).
CONDITION: Near mint, with NO cracks, chips, flakes, hairlines, crazing or repairs. There are a very few, very light surface marks that cannot be seen unless the plate is tilted in bright light.
This plate would be outstanding in any good collection of railway passenger dining car items, particularly for a southwest interest collector.
