Here is a very pretty New York Central Railroad "Pacemaker" pattern china dinner plate, in a pastel green shade that probably would have been called "Sea Foam" back in the day. It is top marked NYC in a slightly darker tint.

This is the large 10-1/8" size plate. Only these dinner plates, no companion pieces, were ever made in this pattern. According to "Dining on Rails" (Luckin) Pacemaker plates were used aboard the New York Central's "Mercury" name trains, and were ordered during the last few years of the 1940s, until 1950.

There is no NYCRR bottom marking -- only the NYC monogram on the top. This is correct because Pacemaker plates never were bottom marked with the railroad name. It is correctly marked with Syracuse China's backstamp and 9-CC, the date code for September 1948.

CONDITION: Extremely nice with only the lightest surface marks, you must tilt it in bright light to notice them. Good strong glaze. The pastel green is attractive and uniform.

COLLECTOR NOTE: Pacemaker plates were never marked on the underside with any kind of railroad marking, only a Syracuse China maker mark. They were ordered in only two colors, gray and a pastel green. There is a very scarce, 9-1/2 inch smaller size that we have only seen in green.
