Our long, tall rooster surely has something to crow about -- one from the same mold is pictured in our "Doorstops - Identification and Values" book by Jeanne Bertoia ! who values it at $250 - $300 (1989 prices).
This big fellow is a Full Body style, and is he ever tall -- approximately 15 inches, standing on a base approximately 4 inches square. He is HEAVY ... over 10 pounds! No fox will get into any hen house with this bird holding the door shut!
There are NO cracks, splits, chips or missing pieces. This is a very well made piece, quality workmanship with mold marks superbly filed, so that none show. Take a look at the base (you can easily see the two pieces), where his realistic feet end in claws that extend over the edge of the base!
IMPORTANT: We did not clean this piece. You may (or may not) want to scrub away the dust that has settled in places.
COLOR: Blue - Red - White. White shows through where there are chips in the paint down to the iron -- we believe the white is a primer coat, but it is possible it is the original color. The paint over the white is a bright red (if the white is a primer, then red was the original color). The dark blue outer color is old and flaked away in a number of places; it is taking on an appealing and interesting "cracquelure" surface from age.
There is a little bit of SURFACE rusting on the underside of the base that is cosmetic only, and we left as found. There are minor paint chips and we have shown a close up of the worst one that is on his head.
Being a celebrity from the Bertoia book mention, this guy is looking for a new home in a chicken collection where he can rule the roost, preferably including some hens to make him happy!
PLEASE NOTE: A UPS ship estimate may not be accurate, as we ship from a COMMERCIAL account (cheapest) - and if we can ship to your business or workplace, that is by far the lowest rate!
