Here is one big bold glass canister jar - ! It is pale apple green in color. Our pictures were all taken outdoors in natural light, and the black backdrop makes the color pop! The glass is a tamer color indoors, depending on the light. We are not glass experts so do not know if it qualifies as "vaseline" glass.
SIZE: This jar is the largest in a set of kitchen canister jars. An identical one is shown in the "Green Transparent" section of our "Kitchen Glassware of the Depression Years" book by Gene Florence. It weighs 3-1/2 POUNDS (!) The lower section (below the threaded neck) is approximately 6-1/2 inches square. Its full height including the tin lid is approximately 8 inches. The lid is 5 inches across and 3/4 inch tall.
CONDITION is lovely! There are NO cracks, chips or flakes. There are bubbles and a few swirls adding character to the glass. This was made in a two-piece mold, and the mold marks show lightly. The threads on the top are in perfect condition.
THE LABEL is original and is tightly affixed into a recessed panel in the glass ribbing. It is silver color with black lettering. The silver areas are slightly discolored. Both right corners are missing, but otherwise it is surprisingly good for its age.
THE METAL LID is tin. It is bright and clean inside, but has outside surface rust (but no pinholes, this is surface only). It was originally a green color. It screws easily onto the glass threads.
We are so pleased to offer this! It is a great find for any vintage kitchenware collection.
