This is a fine working lock and key from the Norfolk & Western Railway. Both are brass and work well together. They would be an excellent addition to any railroad padlock collection.
THE KEY is an appealing rich deep color. It is stamped N&WRY in serif Roman letters on one side of its bow. On the other side is stamped the maker SLAYMAKER and serial number 43670.
THE LOCK is brass. It is not maker marked but it has a beautifully crafted panel with the railroad initials raised over a dark pebbled background. It is stamped with a letter Z on its shackle and the year 1968. There is a short length of original chain attached. The steel clevis loop and pin swing freely.
IMPORTANT: The N&W stopped having these locks made in 1969, meaning this one has not seen a great deal of use. It shows some light surface wear, but not excessive wear, and is in excellent condition.
