This little cast metal dog is a Sealyham Terrier, a difficult breed for which to find in artwork and figurines! This one is amazingly realistic, correctly proportioned with longer body and short legs, and best of all, that curious but dour terrier expression and alert stance.
Our dog is approximately 2 inches long and just over 1 inch tall. The metal is “white metal” or spelter. It is solid, not hollow and dates from the earlier part of the 1900s.
The paint is original white, that has yellowed/darkened slightly from age. The tail is black. PLEASE NOTE the RIGHT ear/eye are black spotted -- the LEFT side is plain white. There is all-over rubbing and flaking from age, which makes the “coat texture” stand out clearly. Incredibly, both eyes are perfectly there ! They are brown with black pupils just like a live dog – you must use a magnifying glass (or computer enlargement) to see them, but they’re very realistic, and a black line defines the mouth.
There are NO breaks, cracks, splits or missing parts, and NO repairs.
A nice piece to add to any collection of terrier dog items or just doggy figurines in general!
