WEAR IT -- ! This terrific tie clip came from a model train fan's estate. It is incredibly detailed, but an amazingly tiny 1.75 inch long ! Depicted is a 4-8-2 circa 1900s steam locomotive with its coal-filled tender. You can actually count the ribs down the boiler. The number 5711 is on the cab just below the "engineer" but you will need a high quality magnifying glass to read it.
Wear this clasp to your next railroad club meet or train show ! The spring is extremely strong with good solid teeth to hold the thickest necktie. It has lots more use left !!
CONDITION is excellent - it is sound and straight, and the only "issue" is that it appears to have been a favorite and well used. This appears to have originally been gold-tone. The "gold" has rubbed off on the front and edges, showing the silvery color metal underneath, but with this being less than 2 inches long, the subtle color change is extremely hard to see, and probably won't even be noticeable. There are some light surface marks on the tender, and the black background color is chipped off below the tender. AGAIN - these are nearly impossible to see in real life.
There are no maker's markings of any kind.
