I have had this exceptional pie pastry crimper for many years, using it to create distinctive, lattice-top pie crusts. It is an eye-catcher with a big brass wheel and original, tapered wooden handle. I believe it dates from the latest 1800s into the early 1900s. It would be a great addition to any antique kitchenware collection.
SIZE: Total length is 6 inches. The wheel is a generous 1-1/2 inches across, and cuts a full 1/8 inch "V" shape "rick-rack" pattern through rolled out pastry. .
CONDITION is superb : The wheel turns freely. It is tightly attached to the handle with a flat steel stem that is held in place by a round collar. No wiggling here! The wood has age darkened to a very attractive color, with NO splits and NO cracks.
This old cutter is the absolute best kind of antique: You can USE it without harming it! Just keep it clean, wash it by hand and lightly oil the wood occasionally with olive or salad oil.
