Here is an endearing covered sugar bowl with slender blue birds in flight. It is an appealing medium size, holding about 8 ounces of sugar.
There are two smaller birds on the lid, and a small and a large bird on each side. A splash of blue on the handles completes a pretty picture.
MANUFACTURER: The manufacturer is Knowles, Taylor & Knowles, one of the more sought after makers. Importantly, our book "Restaurant China: Volume 2" (Conroy) identifies this KT&K S---V backmark as having been used between 1905 and circa 1929. EVEN BETTER: Conroy identifies the number 457 as the year 1907 - one of the earliest pieces of this wildly popular dinnerware.
CONDITION: Extremely clean. Wonderfully sound , with NO cracks, chips, flakes or repairs. Some of the bird transfers are not perfect -- see our pictures please, this is the way they were made. There are NO surface scratches. There also is very fine glaze crazing, expected in this type of ware.
