Here is a terrific brass key from the St. Louis - San Francisco Railway, better known as the " Frisco." It would have been made for use on a caboose or passenger coach car door.
It is stamped SL&SF on one side of its bow, and on the other side is stamped a good strong ADLAKE, its maker.
Length is approximately 3.5 inches.
Condition is excellent, with only light signs of use.
BACKGROUND - The Frisco operated from 1876 to 1980. Headquartered in Springfield, Missouri, it ran through the US states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. It was formed from the Missouri Division and Central Division of the Atlantic & Pacific Railroad, and was one of only two railroads authorized by the government to build across what was then Indian Territory.
