This is a harder to find china plate ordered by the Delaware & Hudson Railroad in 1983 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the railway: 1853 - 1983. It is a newer production but is true railroadiana, having been ordered by the D&H company while it was still active.
Graced with a brilliant overglaze gold band encircling its rim, the highly detailed, center four-color decoration is a historical depiction of the progression of the D&H from its earliest beginnings operating boats through the canals of Pennsylvania and New York, to modern times with a modern diesel locomotive emerging from the background.
CONDITION is spectacular, with NO cracks, chips, flakes or repairs. It appears to have never been used for anything -- always a shelf piece for display. There is no discoloration. The gold is wonderful in almost absolutely perfect condition -- we would give it 99 out of 100.
SIZE is an impressive 10 inches across.
There is no maker mark, but the D&H china production for their celebration is well known and documented. A matching footed milk-glass mug was also produced.
