The JLH Company made this steel key for the New York Central between 1914 and 1935, when it was known as the New York Central Lines.
The key is approximately 3.5 inches long, shorter than many. It is stamped NYCL on one side of its bow, along with JLH&CO in tiny letters. There is no stamping on the other side.
Condition is extremely nice, with the bit edges just slightly rounded off documenting use. The color has softened to a soft pewter look. There is some slight surface darkening in places but there is NO surface rust and no bends, twists or other problems. NOTE how the bit part is proportionately longer in comparison to the shaft length, than found on other makers' keys. and how the solid shaft tapers between where it meets the bow and where it stops at the bit.
A very nice addition to any railway lock and key collection.
