SEVERAL AVAILABLE: What an eye-catching full size dinner plate from the famous "Milwaukee Road," the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad. It is stunning example of Syracuse China's famous airbrush shadowtone decorating technique, with shades of pink over bright white base chinaware.
Two Canada Geese are depicted winging their way swiftly and efficiently over a backdrop of mountains and pine trees - the image that the railroad wanted to instill for the service passengers would receive aboard Milwaukee trains. The black trim is all hand applied.
None of our plates are railroad back marked. All carry a correct green Syracuse China Econo-Rim bottom marking, with date codes from the 1940s.
SIZE is a full 9.5 inches across.
CONDITION is lovely with only very light utensil marks that cannot be seen without tilting the plate in bright light. There are a few tiny glaze imperfections here and there, again not noticeable unless you actually look for them. Absolutely NO cracks, chips, flakes or repairs. The glaze is bright and shiny and strong. The pink coloration is strong and well defined, with no runs.
Traveler china was so well received by the public that railway officials ordered it many times following the first order in 1937. It was used until passenger service on the CMStP&P ended, not long before the road was succeeded by Amtrak.
