Here is a hard to find 7.25 inch size plate, in the Peacock pattern used by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad - the famous "Milwaukee Road."
Condition is incredible -- as close to "mint" as not-new china can be. We could not find even one surface mark showing any use, even tilting it in bright light. It appears to have never been used. This size dish would have been used as a side plate for salad, cake or dessert. Oval platters and smaller bowls are fairly common, but this mid-size round plate is missing from many collections.
In the center of this plate, an exotic peacock stands regally amid a brilliantly colored group of jungle flowers. The image is flawless - dramatic strong colors, highly detailed artwork and NO glaze runs or problems. Note the blue rim design enhancing the stamped-in, molded rim design that is one of the characteristics of the Econo-Rim line.
This plate is date coded 12-Z, meaning that it was made in December 1945.
Only Syracuse China made this pattern for railway use, and "Peacock" never carried a railroad bottom marking, only Syracuse China markings. It is considered an "exclusive" pattern because Syracuse China sold the railroad design exclusively to the Milwaukee Road, and never to any other customers.
COLLECTOR NOTE: This same peacock center design was used by Syracuse China with other rim decoration. The Milwaukee Road "Peacock" exclusive pattern was the center peafowl design together with the blue outer rim decoration. Without BOTH, it is not "Peacock" railroad china.
