Perfect to start a collection, or a star in any grouping -- ! This mid-size butter mold is one of the absolute best we've offered, simple and practical but a bit on the "elegant" side (can we call a butter mold elegant?) with extra turnings -- non-essential curves and rounds and grooves.
Condition is fantastic! All original, antique, with NO cracks or splits, NO chips and NO signs of abuse. Size is approximately 3-1/4 inches tall measured up the side (not counting the handle). When we measured across the bottom (it's about 3-1/2 inches across) we discovered it has aged into being slightly off-round -- another strong documentation of age!!
The color is warm, age-patinaed, all natural. We gave it a light coat of olive oil (a FOOD/salad oil -- so you can use this if you like!-- We NEVER use petroleum products on kitchenware!!!) and it has this wonderful muted "almost glow."
The stamp carving is very Eastlake appearing -- a large leaf (or possibly a sheaf of wheat between two thin upright leaves?) .
We believe the wood is birch or poplar. The grain is clear and fine with no sign of any knots, and the wood is hard but not heavy.
