Exquisitely stunning, dramatic Arabian stallions - drinkers of the wind - these fabulous pieces were created as bookends, but are wonderful to enjoy as extraordinarily realistic figurines. Dated (c) 1948, signed Gladys Brown, this breathtakingly beautiful, lifelike pair are Arabian stallions, cast from an original sculpture by one of America's most talented equine sculptors and artists.

These impressive pieces are white metal with a rich, deep bronze wash. They are hollow, with original green felt firmly adhered to their undersides. Such emotion portrayed in art -- exquisitely delineated expressions, perfect conformation with large eyes, tiny ears and long, flowing forelocks and forward-blown manes that sweep over the edges of their bases, this is a marvelous find for any admirer of Gladys Brown Edwards' creations.

SIZE: LARGE - Each weighs two pounds. Each base is approximately 4 inches wide by 5 inches long. Height (at the tallest point of the forelock) is about 7 inches. These are too large to fit into a U.S.P.S. Priority Mail Large Flat Rate box.

CONDITION: Overall a beautiful display. Beautifully molded -- there are a few hard to see mold marks. There are NO dents, cracks, splits or repairs. The brass wash over the base metal is in very good condition with no rubbed spots.

IMPORTANT: The tops of the bases and a few flat surfaces in the manes show not immediately visible "grunge" surface splotches from age and apparently just sitting around. They have not been abused; they just appear to perhaps have been stored. We did not want to risk jeopardizing the bronze metal finish by trying to clean them.

BACKGROUND : Gladys Brown Edwards (1908 - 1989) was a well known equine sculptor, artist and writer. The realism and character of the horses she created endeared her to the public, and her strong following continues to this day. An internationally recognized authority and expert on the Arabian horse breed, she was long associated with the famous W. H. Kellogg Arabian horse ranch in Pomona, California. In 1946, she married U.S. Army Col. Cecil L. Edwards, who created The Horseman’s Studio to promote and distribute her artwork. Connections with The Metal Corporation of America solidified her professional status creating sculptures for casting into metal figurines, from impressively realistic and highly detailed figures to unsigned, simple, un-detailed carnival prizes. Gladys Brown Edwards began working for the Dodge Foundry in 1934, where most of her sculptures were made. Some of her most recognizable works were used as trophies by the Arabian Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Association.
