Her tightly braided black yarn "hair" gives our Indian Princess folk art doll a character all her own. She is a hand made, one-of-a-kind character. Her body is a shelled corn cob, over which multiple layers of corn husks have been attached. Even the "feather" rising up out of her headband, is a slip of corn husk.
Our girl is approximately 10 inches tall. She is very sturdily constructed, almost completely from one corn cob -- one small piece of string around her waist is visible (see the pictures of her BACK). She can stand on her own but would be better with a brace under her skirt.
The artisan who created her hand painted interesting graphic designs down the edges of some of the husks, adding greatly to her "American Southwest" look.
CONDITION: Excellent! With NO broken or missing parts. Secure and soundly made and obviously carefully dried, with NO odor. Harvested from a living farm plant, the individual corn shuck leaves show normal color variations, surface bumps and flecks from their life in the field.
Dolls of this type are usually constructed by soaking the corn husk leaves and shaping them while they are still wet. Once dry they become rigid. Accordingly, every creation is an individual, one of a kind.
We couldn't resist this one - and hope you can't either ! She would be a terrific addition to any collection of cornhusk folkart figures.
