This is a fine example of dining car flatware from the New York Central Railroad. It is a "place knife", the piece included in a standard 5-piece place setting: Knife, fork, teaspoon, salad fork and soup spoon.

We confirmed in "Silver At Your Service" the railroad flatware guide by Dominy and Morgenfruh, that this pattern name is "Century B", the service ordered by the New York Central for use aboard their luxury 20th Century Limited name trains. The maker was the International Silver Company.

This knife is a full 9 inches long (the hollow handle is 4 inches long; the blade is 5 inches long). The handle is silver plated; the blade is stainless steel. It is strongly marked NYC on the handle, just below where it meets the blade. INSICO is stamped on one side of the blade (Some blades may say INTERNATIONAL SILVER)

CONDITION is very nice, a fine addition to any grouping with NO tarnish, and a rich, glowing patina. There are very light surface marks from use, but NO dents. The blades are mirror bright and therefore show marks more than the mellow, plated handle. There are NO nicks or twists on the blade.
