This tab handled china dish is an ice cream shell from the New York Central Railroad. The pattern is "DeWitt Clinton" which pays homage to the fourth steam locomotive produced in the United States, and the first ever in New York state.
CONDITION is exceptionally nice, with bright colors and brilliantly sharp, clear artwork in the tiny cameo of the engine. You must tilt this in bright light to see light surface marks from use. There are NO cracks, chips, flakes or repairs.
On the bottom, this dish is stamped with the correct New York Central Railroad marking (they used the name "Lines" between 1914 and 1935) above the Syracuse Mark including G-4 which is the date code for April 1926.
The tribute to New York State's first steam locomotive and appealing design made "DeWitt Clinton" china so popular with the traveling public that it was used until the early 1950s.
If you enjoy DeWitt Clinton china and your collection is missing an ice cream shell -- look no further!
