Time's Treasures Railroad & Country
is now SALE PENDINGThis hat badge from the New York Central Railroad is in superb condition. The occupation is "Baggageman," an employee who would be working under the Baggage Master's supervision, loading and unloading passenger luggage and other goods. It dates from between 1935 and 1968, during the era when the New York Central used "New York Central System" as an identifier.
This badge retains its graceful curve allowing it to fit snugly across the front of the worker's uniform hat or cap. It is a silver color, with a pebbled background and brightly shining lettering and frame. The center blue oval is enamel.
There are only the lightest signs of use on this badge. "Halo" marks around the holes attest that it spent time on a hat. The are hard to see lightest signs of use: some tiny scuffs on the metal surface and only several tiniest chips in the blue area.
There is no maker mark on the back, which is correct for this type of badge.
A fine addition to any collection of railway uniform items, or a New York Central collection.
