Here is a very nice example of a "State Flowers" service plate from the Missouri Pacific Railroad Lines.
A full 10-1/4 inches across, this plate is beautiful in full color, bright as ever, with only the very fewest light surface marks and NO cracks, chips, flakes or repairs. It is correctly backmarked OPCO/Syracuse China .
In sparkling detail it showcases the flowers a passenger could expect to see along the railway lines. No collection of MoPac china is complete without one of these.
Collectors call this design the "Steam Service." It was produced between 1929 and the 1940s when it was replaced by a "Diesel Service" plate showcasing a sleek new diesel locomotive. "Steam Service" comes in two versions, one with Missouri at the topmost 12 o"clock position and one with Texas at the top. Our plate is the Missouri version.
According to "Official Guide of Railroad Dining Car China" (McIntyre) these plates are "sometimes" bottom marked with a railroad marking, and the marked ones seem to be from the earliest 1929 order. The RR-stamped plates of course are more desirable. Our plate is not RR bottom marked, but it is priced accordingly.
